Tier 1 Raiding Gear Guidelines
While I call these "guidelines", I feel that anyone that earnestly wishes to contribute to the success of their raid should consider them minimum requirements.
Knowledge
All members of a raid are expected to review available information about the raid and come to the raid with a solid understanding of what the overall raid and a detailed understanding of what they need to do to fulfill their role throughout the events, bosses, and trash mobs.
Skills
All members of the raid should be able to perform their class role well, to include:
- Maintaining CC while performing their primary role, e.g. Trapping while DPSing, Shackling while healing
- Manage their Health and Mana as needed to survive the fight and remain effective
- Intimately understand the capabilities and limits of their character's class and Talents
Gear Targets
The table below lists some suggested goals for characters that are planning to begin raiding. These values are aimed at a party that can potentially clear Karazhan, not just survive the encounters up to the Curator. These values are unbuffed. Talents can be taken into consideration, e.g. a Fire Mage may fall short on general Spell Critical, but their talents provide +9% to Fire Spell Critical chance.

* - in combat
** - all raid members need to be capable of surviving the 7,500 damage from Aran's Pyroblast
Special Needs
- Hateful Bolt Soaker for Curator fight: It is useful for this character to have AR gear, but not necessary.
Group Mix
Overall, Karazhan really rewards parties that have each class represented. The various special class abilities have a chance to really shine in one or more places. So, overall, I feel that any raid into Karazhan should strive for the most diverse class mix possible.
Key Assumptions
- The same ten people will be present from start to finish.
- The group has gear and skill appropriate for Karazhan, i.e. not under geared or over geared
